I really relate to the way you described “keeping to myself” as something that once felt natural but was also keeping you hidden. Solitude can feel so much like home that it takes a little while to notice when it has become a hiding place.
The thing about “keeping to yourself” is that it really does feel safe. However, in my case, it would hold me back from sharing my thoughts or expressing outwardly in anyway. Not really a fulfilling way to live. I’m sure you can agree that staying hidden can only be relied upon for so long.
I can definitely agree. I’ve spent a lot of my life keeping to myself, and it took me a while to realize that feeling safe and feeling fulfilled weren’t always leading me to the same place. Really appreciate the honesty in this piece.
